CHAPTER FOURTEEN
âAND YOU GUYS just got here?â The way Ian said it wasnât a question.
Lacy shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot and it had nothing to do with the sudden appearance of the two men. The movement wasnât a smart idea. Every motion either pulled at her rib or made her jeans chafe at her crotch. Her clit, as Ian had so easily referred to it, was tender and throbbing and made standing damned near impossible.
It would have been a good feelingâa great one, evenâif she could have pulled the covers up over her head and let Ianâs hard muscles curl around her body. If she could have stayed lost in him for a little while longer...
But no. Instead, she was standing in the early-morning light, listening to Ian grill two cowboys named Randy and Garth. Lacy couldnât remember which cowboy was which.
âDude, seriouslyâwe left Wisconsin last night after we got off work and drove straight through,â Randy/Garth said.
âYou can call our boss,â Garth/Randy confirmed. âWe were at work until five. Whatâs this all about, anyway? Why are you two here at the butt crack of dawn?â
At this, Lacy shot a worried look at Ian. It was a short leap from a man and a woman in an unexpected place alone and them being alone together. One wrong word and these cowboys would put one and one together.
This was how rumors worked. Not that sheâd figure that by Ianâs attitude. How could he stand thereâleaning against the back of her truck, one foot kicked up, his hands in his pocketsâwhen itâd been less than fifteen minutes since...
Well. Since heâd had his fingers inside her body.
Ian had made her feel very goodâand for a few minutes, anyway, she hadnât thought of nightmares or death or bulls. Sheâd been in his arms, chasing a kind of freedom sheâd only caught shadows of before. Nothing sheâd ever done to herself had come close to what heâd done to her. And it had been glorious.
Except now, she didnât feel quite the same and she didnât have the luxury of time to figure out if that was a good thing.
She just knew she wanted him to do it again. She caught Ian looking at her and blushed. Furiously.
The woman sheâd been before her parentsâ deaths would not have let Ian touch her like that. She wouldnât have offered to do the same in return. She would have turned her back on him from the moment heâd offered his no-strings-attached kind of fun and that would have been that.
Except it hadnât been. And now there was no going back.
She crossed her arms. Ianâs eyes widened. He shook his head the tiniest bit, and she remembered that she still didnât have her bra on. So she uncrossed her arms and jammed her hands into her pockets.
âThere was an accident yesterdayâexcept maybe it wasnât an accident,â Ian explained into the expectant silence.
âWhat happened?â Randy/Garth said.
Ian looked at her. Hell. âOne of my bulls got loose.â Her voice cracked on the last word and she had to look at the ground and swallow a few times.
